Exploring how the Meta-Layer can preserve the continuity of civic meaning across artifacts, evidence, interpretation, AI transformation, governance, and feedback over time. The group focuses on building the conceptual, governance, and technical foundations for durable, navigable, and plural collective memory systems that support civilization-scale collective intelligence without collapsing into surveillance, narrative capture, or synthetic consensus.

Join workgroup →Duplicate-text cleanup is ready on the Review tab Review it here: https://desirableproperties.org/workgroups/dp22-civic-memory-epistemic-continuity?tab=review A review of all 23 chapters found that §8 (Civic Memory Layer) restates five failure modes that §7 already defines, nearly word for word: artifact orphaning, semantic laundering, interpretive monopoly/overload, retrieval capture, and institutional amnesia. On the Review tab there is now one dedup proposal (5 edits) that removes the repeated failure-mode sentences from 8.1–8.5. §7 keeps the definitions. This is the light fix. §7 and §8 still describe the same six mechanisms in parallel, and whether to merge them further is a call for this workgroup. Co-editors approve it once; it applies all or nothing.
DP22 workgroup chat Heads-up: one heading change proposed for DP22 A proposal on the Review tab renames DP22's Section 16. On the Review tab its reason shows only as "Filed from Canopi book patch …", because the Patch composer has no field for one; the reason is below. From: "16. Governance Conditions for Civic Memory" To: "16. Governance, Accountability, and Agency Surfaces" Why: every other chapter has a section with this standard name, and DP22's §16 already does that job. Its §16.1 "Accountability surfaces" and §16.2 "Participant agency surfaces" are exactly what the standard section holds. Using the shared name lets readers find it the same way in every chapter. Only the heading changes; the text and numbering stay the same. Also still open on the Review tab: the duplicate-text bundle from October 26. It removes five failure-mode sentences in §8 that repeat the matching ones in §7, with no change in meaning. One approval applies it. The layout rules are in the new format guide: https://desirableproperties.org/format-guide
